As the sun set over the fog-covered Sonai River at the India-Bangladesh border in North 24 Parganas district, BSF jawans prepared to stop smuggling of goods like cough syrups, gold, silver, and human trafficking. The unfenced river makes it challenging for the force to prevent smuggling activities, especially during low visibility in winters and monsoon swells. Non-cooperative villagers and difficult terrain add to the guarding challenges faced by the BSF in the region.
