The Indian Navy is set to commission three major platforms next month – the INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vagsheer – to enhance its maritime defence capabilities and counterbalance China’s naval presence in the Indian Ocean Region. These additions are part of a larger modernization effort, with 60 warships under construction in Indian shipyards, emphasizing India’s focus on bolstering domestic defence production. The INS Surat, an AI-enabled guided-missile destroyer, and the INS Nilgiri, a stealth frigate, showcase India’s commitment to advanced and self-reliant defence systems, equipped with cutting-edge weapons and sensors for combat readiness.
