Indo-Pacific to Indo-Mediterranean: Italy-India focus on maritime ties

Italian policy makers, including a minister, senator, defence secretary, and ex-diplomatic adviser to PM Gigorgia Meloni, visited New Delhi and Mumbai to promote maritime partnership with India following the Joint Action Plan agreed upon at the PM-level meeting in Brazil during the G20 summit. Italy aims to establish a Cotton Route connecting Italian and Indian ports in the Western Indian Ocean for trade, defense, and blue economy collaboration, with a focus on becoming India’s gateway to Europe. Additionally, Italy is pursuing space cooperation with India and exploring opportunities in nuclear energy and critical minerals sectors through high-level meetings and conferences held in India.
