The U.S. State Department has approved the sale of spare parts for F-16 jets and radars to Taiwan for $385 million, as Beijing increases military pressure on the island. The Pentagon also approved the sale of mobile subscriber equipment for $65 million, with General Dynamics as the principal contractor. Last month, a $2 billion arms sale package to Taiwan was announced, including an advanced air defense missile system. Taiwan President Lai Ching-te embarks on a Pacific trip, starting with a stopover in Hawaii before visiting Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, and Palau, countries with diplomatic ties to Taipei.
