Taiwan’s defense ministry reported the detection of a Chinese balloon over the sea north of Taiwan, marking the first incident since April in what Taipei sees as Beijing’s ongoing harassment. The ministry described the activity as part of China’s grey-zone warfare tactics aimed at exerting pressure without engaging in open combat. The balloon was detected 60 nautical miles from Taiwan’s Keelung port, flying at 33,000 ft before disappearing without entering Taiwanese airspace.
