US won't change nuclear posture after Russia doctrine change, White House says

The United States was not surprised by Russia’s announcement of changes to its nuclear doctrine and does not plan to adjust its own nuclear posture in response, according to a White House National Security Council spokesperson. The statement highlighted Russia’s irresponsible rhetoric and lack of changes to its nuclear posture, leading to the decision not to alter the US nuclear doctrine. Russia’s lower threshold for a nuclear strike and accusations of Ukraine using US-made missiles were also mentioned, along with concerns about Russia’s escalation in Ukraine.
