South African travelers should avoid myths like booking flights at midnight for the best deals and using a VPN for lower airfare prices. Rolling clothes to save luggage space may not be beneficial for budget airlines with strict weight limits, and skipping travel insurance can be costly in case of emergencies. Exchanging currency at airports can result in poor exchange rates, while booking budget accommodation far from tourist areas may lead to higher transport costs. Waiting for last-minute hotel deals during peak seasons may not be successful, and overpacking can result in excess baggage fees. Relying solely on free Wi-Fi for communication and navigation can be unreliable, and DIYing everything may not be the most cost-effective approach for unfamiliar destinations.
