A Tararua District Council employee received a written warning for not escalating the discovery of a dead possum in a Woodville drinking water reservoir, which was reported to the national Water Services Authority, Taumata Arowai, by a member of the public about 11 days later. This incident, noted in the 2024 Drinking Water Regulation Report, marked the first instance of such a warning being issued by the authority.

Explain It To Me Like I’m 5: A worker from the Tararua District Council got in trouble for not telling someone about a dead possum found in a drinking water tank, which was instead reported by a person from the public days later.
