Women may face new challenges as the Government considers legal changes to address rising costs associated with the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC). Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Scott Simpson is contemplating narrowing the ACC’s coverage after a 2023 court ruling allowed victims of sexual abuse to claim compensation for lost earnings from the time of abuse, rather than just from when treatment began. This shift has prompted Finance Minister Nicola Willis to develop a new budgeting method that excludes ACC costs to manage the Government’s financial commitments.
