A woman named Natalia Merrin conspired with her brother, William James Merrin, to facilitate his escape from prison following their grandmother’s death. In a bizarre twist, she “catfished” a deceased person’s Facebook page, replacing it with their grandmother’s photo. During a phone conversation, the siblings indicated they had no intention of attending the funeral in Minginui, Bay of Plenty, as William planned to meet his partner instead; he has since been jailed for his involvement in the scheme.
