Joseph Wiremu Webster, 43, and his cousin Johnathan Brian Webster, 54, drowned at Ripirō Beach after struggling in the surf, reportedly caught in a rip current. They had been net fishing with a relative, who managed to swim back to safety. Efforts to revive both men were unfortunately unsuccessful.
