A woman suffered a spinal cord injury during back surgery at Hawke’s Bay Hospital, resulting in her reliance on a wheelchair. Prior to the operation, a mix-up led to her sister being mistakenly prepared for surgery, but the error was caught in time; however, the woman still experienced significant loss of motor and sensory function in her legs post-surgery.
