Tarique Rahman, leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has been sworn in as the country’s first elected prime minister since deadly protests in 2024 ousted the previous government. The BNP’s political alliance won 212 seats in parliament, with Rahman appointing 25 full ministers to his cabinet, including prominent figures like Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury. The new government also includes technocratic minister Khalilur Rahman and the only woman cabinet minister, Afroza Khanam Rita.
