John Sheeran, a white teen, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and assault with a dangerous weapon in a racially motivated attack on a Black boy in Cape Cod in 2023, with sentencing scheduled for February 5. The incident at Goose Pond involved Sheeran dragging the victim underwater while making racial slurs, prompting a bystander to intervene and assist the victim to safety. Sheeran’s guilty plea includes a three-year suspended sentence, community service, therapy, an apology letter, and no contact with the victim, with the victim’s family supporting the plea agreement.
