President’s Day in Illinois on Feb. 17, 2025, will see closures of businesses, schools, and offices in honor of George Washington. The holiday originated in 1799 to celebrate Washington’s birthday and was officially recognized nationally in 1885. USPS services will be suspended, state offices like the Illinois Secretary of State’s Offices and DMVs will be closed, and schools may or may not observe the holiday. The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed, while most grocery stores will remain open with modified hours.
