A humpback whale stranded in shallow water off the north German coast has been successfully freed by rescuers after several days of being stuck. The whale, which was not in its natural habitat, was entangled in nets and was unable to swim back into deeper water. After failed attempts to rescue the whale, a channel was dug with heavy machinery on Thursday, allowing the whale to swim back out to sea. Rescuers took precautions to not harm the animal during the rescue process.
