A 22-year-old Chicago man faces 14 felonies after a shooting and subsequent shootout with police, but hate crime charges have not been filed yet despite suspicions of a hateful motive from the community. Sidi Mohamed Abdallah allegedly shot a Jewish man on his way to a synagogue, with the victim’s community perceiving it as a targeted act, though the police claim there is insufficient evidence for a hate crime charge at this time. The suspect remains hospitalized, and a detention hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning as the investigation continues.
