Wendy Williams’ niece shared a heartbreaking revelation about her aunt…
In 2021, the beloved television personality took a step back from The Wendy Williams Show and withdrew from the public eye due to ongoing health struggles and mental health issues. Sherri Shepherd temporarily filled in for Wendy before the show ultimately came to an end after 13 seasons in 2022. Sherri then went on to host her own show, taking over Wendy’s timeslot.
Fans were understandably disappointed to hear about the cancellation of The Wendy Williams Show. But how did Wendy herself react to the news? Alex Finnie, her niece, told CNN that Wendy initially struggled to grasp the fact that the show had been canceled. Alex had to sit Wendy down and explain the situation to her:
“I got serious, and I said, ‘I want to really explain something to you so that you can get this.’ There’s no more Wendy Williams Show. They decided to cancel it. After so many fabulous seasons, this curtain has come down.’”
Wendy was in disbelief and had trouble understanding the situation. Alex continued:
“I remember her saying, ’What are you talking about? Of course, I have the show.’ It took a little bit of convincing and conversations with the powers that be from her show for her to really understand that the show is no more.”
Oof…
It has since been revealed that Wendy is battling primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. Fans will soon learn more about her health struggles, alcohol abuse, financial issues, and more in an upcoming Lifetime documentary titled Where Is Wendy Williams? However, the documentary has not been without its share of drama!
According to TMZ, Wendy’s guardian Sabrina Morrissey has filed a lawsuit against A&E Television Networks, the parent company of Lifetime. While the lawsuit was filed under seal, sources suggest that it may be an attempt to prevent the airing of the documentary. Despite the legal battle, Lifetime plans to proceed with the premiere of the documentary as scheduled.
