A man involved in a standoff at a former church in Welland, Ont., was taken into custody after nearly 24 hours, following a fence dispute that escalated when he shot and wounded a police officer. The incident prompted a shelter-in-place order, which was lifted after the man’s arrest at 7:30 a.m. ET on Saturday. Police had negotiated with the suspect overnight, and the officer has since been released from the hospital with minor injuries. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified as police fired their weapons during the initial encounter.
