Drones were spotted over Volkel Air Base in the Netherlands on Friday evening, prompting security staff to deploy weapons to take them down. The incident occurred between 7pm and 9pm, but the drones left the area and were not recovered. The Dutch Ministry of Defence has initiated an investigation, with the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee and police involved, as the reason for the drones’ presence remains unclear. Volkel Air Base, operated by the Royal Netherlands Air Force, hosts two F-35 squadrons and collaborates with Belgium and Luxembourg for airspace monitoring.
