In a report by the Global Commission on the Economics of Water, experts warned that inaction on the water crisis could jeopardize over half of the world’s food production by 2050, affecting nearly 3 billion people. The report highlighted potential economic declines, with high-income countries facing an eight percent GDP drop and lower-income countries up to 15 percent, due to changing precipitation patterns and declining water storage. To address the crisis, the report called for a global view of the water cycle as a common good, urging the elimination of harmful subsidies and increased investment in water-saving solutions to stabilize the global hydrological cycle.
