Ukrainian sumo wrestler Danylo Yavhusishyn, known as Aonishiki Arata, made history by becoming the first from Ukraine to win a major sumo tournament in Japan, clinching the Kyushu championship on November 23, 2025. The 21-year-old, who fled the war in Ukraine three years ago, achieved victory with a tie-breaking win over grand champion Hoshoryu.
