After nearly two years of war in Sudan, journalist Abdelmoneim Abu Idris Ali returned briefly to his devastated neighborhood in Khartoum, witnessing destruction and abandonment caused by the fighting between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and paramilitary leader Mohamed Hamdan Daglo. Displaced multiple times, he ultimately sent his family to safety while he worked from Port Sudan, enduring personal loss and trauma as they fled violence and destruction. Despite recent military recaptures, millions remain uprooted, facing famine and dire living conditions, with many choosing to return home to destitution.
