A helicopter crashed near Wellington’s Mākara Beach this morning during routine farming work, trapping the pilot inside. Maritime NZ’s Rescue Co-ordination Centre is managing the emergency response. The pilot, the sole occupant of the Robinson R66 helicopter, was initially trapped but has since been freed and is being flown to Wellington Hospital for treatment. The incident was reported around 7:50 AM following an electronic location transmitter alert.
