In the Ashburton District Court, a 51-year-old man faced charges of strangulation, wilful damage, and threatening harm against his partner after a violent incident in May. The man attacked his partner, leaving her with a black eye and chipped tooth, following an argument, with alcohol cited as a catalyst for his behavior. Despite facing imprisonment, he received an 11-month home detention sentence, must pay for damaging the victim’s phone, and is subject to an alcohol interlock and zero alcohol licence for a drink driving charge.
