IFAB approved expanded trials of Football Video Support (FVS), allowing coaches to challenge decisions, initially tested at U20 and U17 FIFA Women’s World Cups as a cost-effective alternative to VAR. FVS, not intended for top divisions, lets coaches make up to two challenges per match with limited camera setup, requiring the referee to view replays on the pitch. Additional trials discussed include goalkeepers holding the ball too long, only captains speaking to referees, public announcements after VAR checks, semi-automated offside technology, and referee body cameras, with decisions to be made at the IFAB’s Annual General Meeting in March.
