Uzbekistan eyes increased tea imports from India to rekindle historic trade ties

Uzbeks have a strong tradition of tea consumption before, during, and after meals, reflecting its deep cultural integration. With a historical preference for Indian tea, Uzbekistan is now aiming to boost imports from India, which currently holds a small share compared to China. Recent trade discussions and meetings in Kolkata have sparked hope for increased tea exports to Uzbekistan, as bilateral trade between the two countries continues to strengthen, with India’s exports to Uzbekistan reaching $512 million in 2022, primarily consisting of medicaments, sugar, and vaccines.
