A group of around 50 US tourists watching a cargo ship pass along the Panama Canal dismissed Donald Trump’s threat to possibly reclaim control of the waterway as nonsensical, with one tourist stating that it is “100 per cent Panama’s” and should remain so. Trump has claimed that American ships are charged “unfair” fees for using the canal and alleged that China controls it, but none of the tourists interviewed supported his assertions. Panama’s government has firmly rejected Trump’s accusations and his threat to seize control of the canal upon returning to the White House next month.
