Russian cryptocurrency platform operator Alexander Vinnik is set to be released in exchange for American teacher Marc Fogel. Vinnik, accused of laundering billions through BTC-e, must forfeit $100mn and is awaiting transportation back to Russia. Fogel, released as a show of “good faith” by Moscow, was received at the White House by President Trump and negotiations for his return were led by special envoy Steve Witkoff.
