US sanctions on North Korea target individuals and China, Russia, UAE-based firms

Sanctions will be imposed on Alis LLC in Vladivostok, Russia, and Pioneer Bencont Star Real Estate based in the UAE.

North Korea will reject any contact with Japan: Kim Jong-un’s sister

Both companies are affiliated with Chinyong Information Technology Cooperation Corporation, linked to North Korea’s military.

The Treasury Department stated that Chinyong, previously sanctioned by the US in May 2023, oversees North Korean IT workers in Russia and Laos through a network of companies.
The US and South Korea have formed a task force to prevent North Korea from obtaining illegal oil, as UN Security Council disagreements raise concerns about the effectiveness of international sanctions on Pyongyang.
Despite years of sanctions, North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs continue, leading many to question the efficacy of UN sanctions.
