School officials in Minnesota have reported that a five-year-old boy, Liam Conejo Ramos, was detained by ICE officers allegedly used as “bait” to apprehend his father, who has a pending asylum case. The family, who arrived in the US in 2024, had not been ordered to leave the country. ICE has stated they did not target the child and were conducting an operation to arrest the father, Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias. Liam is the fourth student from Columbia Heights Public Schools to be detained by ICE recently. The family’s lawyer is exploring legal options to free them from the immigration lockup in Dilley, Texas, where conditions are reportedly deteriorating.
