BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 8. The US State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller expressed the US’s willingness to assist in facilitating a dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia during a briefing on April 8, as reported by Trend.
Miller emphasized that the US has consistently advocated for the resolution of the conflict through negotiations at the bargaining table.
“While I cannot confirm any specific upcoming meetings, we have consistently encouraged dialogue. The Secretary has stressed the importance of communication between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan. We are prepared to support this dialogue in any way possible. However, I am unable to provide details on future meetings at this time,” Miller stated.
In December 2023, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien announced that Secretary Blinken anticipates hosting peace negotiations with foreign ministers Bayramov and Mirzoyan in Washington.
Meanwhile, Armenia responded to Baku’s proposals for a potential peace treaty, as announced by Ani Badalyan, a spokesperson for the Armenian Foreign Ministry.
Badalyan revealed that discussions are centered around the 8th set of proposals regarding the draft peace treaty.
Armenia had previously submitted its version of the peace treaty text to Azerbaijan on January 4, 2024. In February, Azerbaijan presented additional proposals for the peace treaty. Direct negotiations on the peace treaty text are currently ongoing between Baku and Yerevan.
