A U.S. aircraft carrier, the USS Carl Vinson, deployed in the Western Pacific Ocean, received additional firepower with six F-35C Lightning II fighter jets from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni in Japan. This reinforcement followed a large Chinese war game in contested Taiwanese waters, aimed at bolstering American power projection and deterring Chinese military activities. The deployment came after China mobilized 90 ships for exercises around Taiwan, as part of ongoing tensions in the region over Taiwan’s status and China’s territorial claims.
