The first-generation Volkswagen Amarok, which was replaced in some markets with a Ford Ranger-based model, is now being replaced in Argentina with a new ute developed specifically for the South American market, based on the Maxus Interstellar X from SAIC Motor. The new model, set to arrive in 2027, will offer traditional combustion, hybrid, and electric powertrains, with the electric version boasting up to 430km of WLTP range. Volkswagen’s partnership with SAIC Motor has allowed for this joint development, aiming to ensure an adequate supply of the Ranger-based Amarok for global markets.
