Caroline “KK” Harvey played a pivotal role in Team USA’s journey to win gold at the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, being named the tournament’s most valuable player. The 23-year-old defenseman, hailing from Salem and Pelham, contributed significantly to the team’s undefeated run, recording eight points over seven games, including two goals and six assists. Following her Olympic success, Harvey returned to the University of Wisconsin, where she helped the Badgers secure two victories in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) tournament, contributing four assists. Harvey’s accomplishments this past month earned her the title of February Athlete of the Month from the New Hampshire Union Leader. This Olympic appearance marked her second time representing the U.S., having previously won a silver medal in 2022.

Why It Matters

Caroline Harvey’s achievements illustrate the rising prominence of women’s ice hockey on the international stage, especially with Team USA capturing its first Olympic gold since 2018. Her performance, which drew comparisons to NHL legend Bobby Orr, highlights the talent emerging in women’s sports, as she leaves the University of Wisconsin with the most points by a defenseman in program history. Harvey’s accolades, including the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award for the top women’s college hockey player, underscore her exceptional impact on the sport and contribute to growing recognition and support for women’s hockey at both collegiate and Olympic levels.
