Niger’s junta has detained former president Mohamed Bazoum and his wife since the military coup in July 2023, despite rulings from international bodies declaring their detention arbitrary. The junta has also targeted political opponents and human rights defenders, denying them due process and fair trial rights. Authorities should immediately release Bazoum, his wife, and all political detainees, in line with calls from the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the ECOWAS Court of Justice.
