South Island food producer Talley’s has lost its defamation case against Television New Zealand (TVNZ) in a ruling by the High Court in Auckland. The case examined TVNZ’s reporting on allegations of poor health and safety practices at Talley’s plants, particularly regarding insufficient emergency stop buttons at the Ashburton facility. The media company defended its use of anonymous sources and responsible journalism practices. This closely watched case was presided over by Justice Pheroze Jagose.
