UK prison officers to demand electric stun guns for dangerous jails | Prisons and probation

Prison officers are demanding the immediate issuance of electric stun guns for staff at high-security jails after an attack on three guards by convicted terrorist Hashem Abedi at HMP Frankland. The Prison Officers’ Association (POA) seeks these devices for specialist teams, alongside stab vests, and advocates for a “Supermax” prison regime for dangerous inmates. This meeting with Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood follows serious concerns about officer safety, especially in light of recent violent incidents linked to inmates like Abedi, who is serving a 55-year sentence.
