UK government may extend domestic energy grants to heat batteries

The UK government is considering expanding the boiler upgrade grant scheme in England and Wales to include sources of low-carbon heating other than heat pumps, as the uptake of heat pumps has been slow. With a target of 600,000 heat pump installations annually by 2028, data from the Resolution Foundation shows that gas boiler installations outnumbered heat pumps by 15:1 last year, highlighting the need for increased adoption of low-carbon heating options in new homes to meet clean energy targets.
