UCLA hires LAPD Cmdr. Steve Lurie to lead safety overhaul following protest violence

UCLA has appointed LAPD Cmdr. Steve Lurie, a 27-year veteran, to lead its Office of Campus Safety following a violent incident at a pro-Palestinian encampment. Lurie, an adjunct law professor at UCLA, will focus on improving campus safety initiatives and collaboration within the community. His appointment comes after previous criticisms of a lack of coordination during the incident and a restructuring of the campus safety office.
