The University of California enrolled a record number of Californians in Fall 2024, with UC Berkeley and UCLA defying national trends by increasing Black student enrollment despite the Supreme Court’s affirmative action ruling. California residents made up 84.2% of undergraduates, with an increase in first-year and transfer students at six campuses. Racial diversity improved systemwide, with an increase in Black student enrollment at Berkeley and UCLA compared to declines seen at other top U.S. universities and colleges.
