Washington — U.S. military forces boarded the Veronica III, a sanctioned tanker in the Indian Ocean, after tracking it from the Caribbean as part of efforts to curb illicit oil linked to Venezuela. Following years of U.S. sanctions, the vessel, which left Venezuela on the day of Nicolás Maduro’s capture, was involved in transporting nearly 2 million barrels of crude. The Pentagon indicated the ship attempted to evade a quarantine imposed by President Trump. This operation follows a similar boarding of another tanker, the Aquila II, in the region.
