U.S. Jets Intercept Russian Planes Near Alaska

U.S. fighter jets were deployed on Thursday to intercept Russian bombers and fighter jets near Alaska, including two Tu-95 bombers, two Su-35s, and an A-50 spy plane, which were detected in the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). NORAD stated that the Russian aircraft did not enter U.S. or Canadian airspace and noted such activities are common and not perceived as a threat. The Alaskan ADIZ is international airspace requiring identification of all aircraft for national security. Previous interceptions included Russian aircraft in September 2025 and joint incursions with Chinese bombers in July 2024.
