Typhoon Kalmaegi has struck the central Philippines, displacing hundreds of thousands and resulting in at least two fatalities, including a man killed by a falling tree in Bohol and an elderly person who drowned in Leyte. The storm made landfall late Monday and is expected to move into the South China Sea by early Wednesday, with 387,000 people evacuated from affected areas. Residents have sought refuge on rooftops, and some evacuation centers have flooded. Meteorologists anticipate that three to five more storms could occur before December, attributing increased storm frequency to climate change and the La Nina phenomenon.
