An IFMGA-qualified mountain guide tragically died alongside a client while attempting to summit Aoraki Mt Cook. The incident occurred when two climbers, connected by a rope, fell near the summit during a grand traverse involving two guides and two clients. The guide, yet to be named, was recognized as an integral part of the guiding community by the New Zealand Mountain Guides Association, whose president, Anna Keeling, emphasized his respected status. The nationalities of the climbers involved have not been disclosed.
