Two Sherwood Park developers, William Boytinck and Matthew Suddaby, created the Shop Canadian app in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff threats. The app, launched on Feb. 5, 2025, has already been downloaded over 100,000 times and is ranked No. 1 in Canada. Another app, Check the Label, developed by Punchcard Systems CEO Sam Jenkins and Estyn Edwards, provides manufacturing information about products using scanned universal product codes (UPCs) from the consumer’s phone camera. Both apps aim to help Canadians make informed choices about buying Canadian products in light of trade uncertainties.
