A delegation from Turkey’s pro-Kurdish DEM party is set to visit jailed PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan on a prison island off Istanbul, marking the party’s first visit in nearly a decade. The visit was approved by the government following an appeal by President Erdogan’s nationalist ally, Devlet Bahceli, for Ocalan to renounce “terror”.
