China will begin limiting exports of critical metal tungsten this weekend, as they aim to control the supply chain that they currently dominate with 80% market share. The Ministry of Commerce will require businesses to apply for licenses to export tungsten and other critical mineral products starting December 1, as part of new rules restricting “dual use” goods. The move comes amidst rising tensions between the U.S. and China, with the U.S. Defense Department planning to ban China-mined tungsten purchases by 2027, leading to increased demand for non-China tungsten.
