The Trump administration initiated an investigation into UC Berkeley regarding foreign funding, reviving past criticisms linked to its partnership with China’s Tsinghua University. This move follows Trump’s executive orders aimed at enforcing federal disclosure laws for foreign gifts over $250,000, as Education Secretary Linda McMahon cited failures in UC Berkeley’s disclosures of substantial foreign funding, including a reported $220 million from the Chinese government. In response, UC Berkeley denied the allegations, stating it has cooperated with inquiries and is no longer affiliated with TBSI.
