Al-Sharaa’s trip, planned for November 10, will be first-ever visit by a Syrian president to the White House.
On November 10, President Donald Trump will host Syria’s interim leader, Ahmad al-Sharaa, marking the first visit by a Syrian president to Washington. Al-Sharaa is expected to sign an agreement to join a US-led coalition against ISIS during his trip, which follows his previous meeting with Trump in Saudi Arabia. The visit occurs amid fragile ceasefire negotiations in Gaza and ongoing talks between Syria and Israel, mediated by the US. Al-Sharaa, who previously led an anti-Assad rebel group, aims to re-establish Syria’s ties with global powers.
